Malicious Ads on Google Target Chinese Users with Fake Messaging Apps

A recent cyber security threat comes in the form of malicious Google ads targeting Chinese users and those who use messaging apps such as Telegram. According to Malwarebytes’ Jérôme Segura, the unidentified threat actor is allegedly abusing Google’s advertiser accounts to push these malicious ads at innocent users. These ads direct users to download Remote Administration Trojans (RATs) under the guise of these popular messaging apps. Here, Google stands vulnerable to such malicious actors who are exploiting its advertising mechanisms for their nefarious intent. This ongoing malvertising campaign raises serious concerns about the ability of threat actors to manipulate ad platforms for malware distribution, indicating an urgent need for improved security protocols.
